Later that same year he started working as a Correctional Officer for The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at the Duval County Jail, where he served for a year. In July 1986, Fred attended the police academy, graduating in November 1986 and started his road patrol duties. He served six years in patrol, four years as a DARE instructor, and four and one half years as a community policing officer, during which time he became an instructor for the Regional Community Policing Institute. Fred's present position is police recruiter for his agency and is also a certified instructor through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
