Officer Bill Holmes - Pinellas Park Police Department

 
     
   

Officer William Holmes has been a patrol officer with the Pinellas Park Police Department since 1986. Prior to 1986, Officer Holmes was a police officer in St. Louis County, Missouri where he was a member of the Major Case Squad. He has earned a master's degree in criminal justice administration from Central Missouri State University and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice management. Officer Holmes is a Master Police Officer and a Field Training Officer.

He is an instructor for the Southeastern Public Safety Institute and a community policing instructor at the Florida Regional Community Policing Institute at St. Petersburg College. Officer Holmes is a domestic violence intervention specialist and has been recognized by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) as a subject matter expert in domestic violence. He is certified by the FDLE to instruct in the following subject areas: Domestic Violence, Crisis Intervention, Human (Cultural) Diversity, Law Enforcement Encounters with the Mentally Ill, and Community Policing at the basic recruit and advanced in-service levels.

In 1997, Officer Holmes received a special tribute from the Florida Attorney General's Office and was given a proclamation by the Florida Legislature in recognition of his accomplishments in the area of victim rights.

In 1998, Officer Holmes was a co-presenter for two statewide law enforcement training teleconferences on domestic violence for the Harrell Institute for the Study of Domestic Violence at the University of South Florida in Tampa. In 1999, Officer Holmes was selected by FDLE to assist in a project to develop a revised and updated curriculum for the statewide basic recruit academies. In 2000, Officer Holmes was selected to receive the Governor's "Peace at Home" Award.

In addition, Officer Holmes has conducted domestic violence training for the staffs of the Florida Department of Corrections, Florida Department of Children and Families, the Center Against Spouse Abuse (CASA) and is active with The Haven and The Spring of Tampa Bay domestic violence shelters.
