| JoAnne Hopkins is originally from upstate NY. She has lived in Florida for over 20 years.
She graduated from Stetson College of Law in 1990 and practiced insurance defense and personally injury until opening her own firm where she primarily focused on personal injury and criminal law. She has an AA in Criminal Justice and a BS degree in Criminology from USF.
She has been teaching Applied Ethics for St. Petersburg College since 1996. She started as an adjunct and then percent of load on the St. Pete/Gibbs campus. She was then transferred close to home (Clearwater) in 1998 when she began a six-month position at the Clearwater campus. Later in 1998 she was made a full-time Applied Ethics Instructor.
She started teaching online when she developed a class for the original Project Eagle and found online teaching had additional rewards. “The motivation of the students astounded me,” she said. “In Ethics they do a lot of work - writing and analyzing situations on the Bulletin Board - I was truly amazed at the exceptional work I read online! I continued to want to teach more and more online."
She is an editor of the text - Applied Ethics 4.0 Ed. , and has been an active member of the FGO since arriving in Clearwater - along with other committees.
