Frieda Widera - Largo Police Department

 
     
   

Frieda Widera is currently a domestic violence intervention specialist at Largo Police Dept. She joins police officers and provides on-scene intervention to domestic violence victims in their homes very soon after an incident occurs. Frieda also assists victims in navigating and understanding the judicial system. In addition, Frieda provides training and consultation to officers at her department as well as with professionals in the community. Formerly, Frieda was the Program Operations Manager at The Haven of RCS in Clearwater, our North county domestic violence center. Her position was multi-faceted with responsibilities in clinical supervision, professional training, grant writing, consultation, and liaison work in the community. Frieda’s educational background includes a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Community Counseling. She has been working in the domestic violence field for the past sixteen years both in the Clearwater area and Atlanta, GA area. Other areas of work include: rape and incest survivor counseling, severely emotionally disturbed children, and emergency room liaison.

Frieda is the past chairperson of the Pinellas County Domestic Violence Task Force. Frieda serves on numerous local boards to include the Juvenile Welfare Board Safe Start Leadership Council, Florida Regional Community Policing Institute Board of Directors, St. Petersburg College Human Services Advisory Board, Visitation Center Board of Directors, and Family Law Advisory Group. She is also active in state efforts, as well as community partnerships and collaborations to end domestic violence.
